Creating Your Ideal Online Course Schedule with Cal Poly's Schedule Builder

As a student at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), navigating your course schedule can be overwhelming, especially when searching for online courses that fit your needs and preferences. Fortunately, the university provides an efficient tool to help you create your ideal schedule - the Schedule Builder.

With the Schedule Builder, you can search for courses using various filters to narrow down your options. One of the primary ways to start your search is by selecting a specific GE (General Education) Area, USCP (US Cultural Pluralism) courses, or GWR (Graduation Writing Requirement) courses that align with your academic goals.

If you're looking for more targeted results, you can use Section Filters to search for courses in specific categories. For instance, the 'Modality of Instruction' filter allows you to search for courses that fit your learning style preferences. Cal Poly offers six different modalities of instruction: Synchronous (fully online with established meeting times), Asynchronous (fully online with no established meeting times), Sync/Async Hybrid, In Person, In Person/Sync Hybrid, and In Person/Async Hybrid.

To view all course offerings, including those that are closed, full, or have formed a waitlist, simply uncheck both Class Status filter options. The Schedule Builder will automatically include only open courses (courses with open seats available) in your search results. If you find the results too limited, you can turn off this Filter to broaden your options.

Another useful feature of the Schedule Builder is Unavailable Time, which allows you to set a specific time range and use it as a filter when searching for courses. This ensures that you don't schedule conflicts with other commitments or appointments.

To get started, simply select 'Expand Filters' in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. From there, you can begin searching for courses using these various filters to create your ideal online course schedule.
